It’s “on” – The Oakland Teacher’s Strike

Straight Outta Funding

The dispute that has been brewing for months has come to this. Today, Oakland public school teachers went on strike.

The Oakland Education Association (the teachers’ union) is demanding smaller class sizes, more nurses, counselors, and school psychologists for students, a living wage, and to scrip Oakland Unified School District’s planned closure of up to 24 schools that serve primarily African-American and Latino students.
